We Are a Reconciling Congregation
At St. Helena United Methodist Church, we believe that God’s love is for everyone—without exception.
You may see the word “Reconciling” and wonder what that means. In the United Methodist Church, being a Reconciling Congregation means we have made a clear commitment to fully welcome and include LGBTQ+ people in every part of the life of the church. This includes worship, leadership, membership, marriage, and ministry.
For us, this is not a political statement—it’s a faith commitment. We believe that every person is created in the image of God and is worthy of love, dignity, and belonging. We also recognize that the church has not always lived up to that calling, and being reconciling is part of our ongoing work to live more fully into the inclusive love of Christ.
What does that mean for you?
It means you don’t have to wonder if you’re welcome here.
It means you don’t have to hide who you are or who you love.
It means your gifts, your voice, and your leadership matter.
And it also means that we are a community still growing—learning how to listen better, love deeper, and stand alongside those who have been excluded or harmed.
Whether you identify as LGBTQ+ or as an ally, or if you’re just beginning to explore what this all means, you are welcome here. We are committed to being a church where everyone can belong and where we walk together in grace, humility, and hope.
